Demonstrations
We are delighted to announce that the demonstrations taking place on 22 August 2010 will be:-
1.00pm to 1.45 pm- Lisa-Kim Heron- Polymer Clay TreatsLisa-Kim Heron (Bead Shop Scotland) lets us in on a few polymer clay trade secrets. She’ll demonstrate how to condition, mix and shape clay to make a delightful little decorated layered cake, and ‘Quick’ the cutest little bath-time duck, all from Fimo.
Lisa-Kim first got her hands on Fimo ten years ago, when she made a fish fridge magnet for her mum. She’s come a long way since then and now produces the most exquisite miniature food beads for her business ‘The Little Sweet Tooth Factory’ in addition to making stock for The Bead shop Scotland. Highly skilled, with great artistic flair and imagination, Lisa-Kim makes a huge range of tiny treats, from sparkly pink cupcakes to rainbow lollipops. Lisa-Kim is also an expert jewellery maker, specialising in all things that glitter!
2.00pm to 2.45 pm Dorothy Wood- Rock Solid
Dorothy Wood is a well known beading author. Her new book, Crystal Jewellery
Creations, and best selling The Beader¹s Bible and Ultimate Necklace Maker
will be available at the bead fair and Dorothy will be happy to answer any
of your beading questions. Dorothy recently moved back to Fife, Scotland and
has started teaching workshops in several venues, including Precious Sparkle
Beads in Perth. See her website for details www.dorothywood.co.uk.
Swarovski Crystals which come in a huge range of shapes and sizes are
extremely popular for jewellery making. Dorothy Wood is going to
demonstrate how to use Hotfix Flat Backs crystals to create maximum impact.
Using pieces from her book Crystal Jewellery Creations, Dorothy will
demonstrate how to apply Hotfix flat backs crystals and how to make and use
polymer clay beads, embellished with crystals to create a chunky bracelet.
3.00pm to 3.45pm Emma Baird- Bead Rings
Emma Baird is an award winning Metal Clay & lampwork artist. As a Certified Senior Instructor she runs a wide variety of precious metal clay classes for Art Clay Scotland in Edinburgh for beginners up to the world recognised Level I & II Certificates. Emma is the current Chairman of the UK's Art Clay Guild and examples of her work have been included in various presentations around the world. She regularly writes articles and "how to" tutorials on metal clay and lampwork for magazines in both the UK and USA.
In this demonstration Emma will show you the basics of using precious metal clay. Watch how easy it is to create beautiful fine silver jewellery with a minimum of tools and equipment. All the basics of working with the clay will be covered, including how to handle the clay, keep it hydrated for longer working times and how to fire and finish it. Don't miss this opportunity to learn some of the tricks of the trade that will ensure professional results every time!
4.00pm to 4.45pm Jane Pierce- Borosilicate Designs
Fom delicate to chunky funky pieces, with over 70 different colours and highlights, these borosilicate teardrop beads can be used to create and abundance of textured necklaces and bracelets. Called "raindrops" or "handbags" by various beading groups, they are successfully incorporated in to so many different designs to produce a variety of effects, whether you like simple uncomplicated or chunky contemporary pieces.
Jane (Purple Beech Designs) will show you how to string and create severla different styles of necklaces and bracelets that can be easily made using these contemporary beads. One example shown is a version of the delicate "blossom bracelet" using sterling silver and teardrops.

Seating at the demonstrations is limited. Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the demonstration to obtain a seat.
In addition to these demonstrations, we are delighted to welcome back Martin Tuffnell of Tuffnell Glass who will be demonstrating Lampwork Bead Making in the foyer throughout the day!
